New Library Book Club

Date: Wednesday, June 1st

Time: 6:45 PM

Senior Library Assistant, Jen, is starting a new book club at the Sargent Memorial Library: the First Wednesday Book Club! The club will meet on the first Wednesday of every month (hence the clever name) from 6:45-7:45pm in the local history room. Registration is required and spots are limited:

The first book will be Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie - this book was crowned “Winner of Winners” by a public vote in 2020 for the 25th anniversary of the Women’s Prize in Fiction. Having originally won the prize in 2007 it is summarized:

“Set in Nigeria during the Biafran War, the novel is about the end of colonialism, ethnic allegiances, class, race and female empowerment – and how love can complicate all of these things”

Book club members will steer the ship in selecting future reads! The club will have no particular theme - instead, we can read from diverse authors across genres so please come to the first meeting with your most interesting ideas!

For this first meeting, everyone will get to know each other a little, distribute copies of Half of a Yellow Sun (to be discussed July 6th), and set the reading list for the year.

Interested in joining a book club at the library but the First Wednesday Book Club doesn’t work for your schedule? Let us know! Given enough interest we may be able to form additional clubs.
