An annual award given to the author(s) and illustrator(s) of the most distinguished American book for beginning readers published in English in the United States during the preceding year. Look to this list for great easy reader books.


Massachusetts Book Awards

The Massachusetts Book Awards recognize significant works of fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and children’s/young adult literature published by Commonwealth residents or about Massachusetts subjects.


Newbery Medal And Honor Books

Considered one of the most prestigious awards for children's literature, it is given to the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children. Every book considered must be published in the preceding year.


Golden Kite Awards - 2019

Instituted in 1973, the Golden Kite Awards are the only children’s literary award judged by a jury of published authors and illustrators. The Golden Kite Awards recognize excellence in children’s literatures in five categories: Young Reader and Middle Grade Fiction, Young Adult Fiction, Nonfiction, Picture Book Text, and Picture Book Illustration. Edgar Award (Juvenile Category)

The award is presented annualy by the Mystery Writers of America to honor the best mystery stories and programs published or produced in the previous year.



Coretta Scott King Award

The award recognizes outstanding books for young adults and children by African American authors and illustrators that reflect the African American experience



Sibert Award

The Robert F. Sibert Informational Book Medal is awarded annually to the author(s) and illustrator(s) of the most distinguished informational book (non-fiction) published in the United States in English during the preceding year.


Pura Belpré Award

This award is given to a Latino/Latina writer and illustrator whose work for children and youth best portrays, affirms, and celebrates the Latino cultural experience.
