Youth Services: Registration Open for RPGs

Have you ever wondered WHY we love roleplaying games so much here at the library? It's because not only are they fun, they also combine lots of our favorite brain exercises like improvisation, storytelling, cooperation, puzzle-solving, and math. We love them so much that we have TWO chances to play: Dungeons & Dragons (for ages 10 and up) or Wanderhome (for ages 7 and up). Both games use lots of imagination and as we play we'll create a character-driven adventure story.

So what's the difference? Well, DnD has lots of established rules and lore to discover, including a combat system. The focus of the game is to get your characters through established scenarios using their specific skills and abilities. The settings and characters are rooted in "classical" fantasy, and there's always a chance things will end in a fight. Wanderhome is a little more loose, there are lots of prompts but not many rules; and the focus of the game is to create a world and characters, then use the characters to explore the world. Wanderhome takes place in a world of Animal-folk where violence is forbidden, so your characters will need to use all of their problem-solving skills to resolve conflicts.

Wanderhome sessions are on Mondays at 5 PM starting January 6.

Dungeons & Dragons sessions are Wednesdays at 4 PM starting January 9.

If you're interested in playing, be sure to register on the event calendar. You'll find the listing in the January calendar, but registration closes at the end of December. This registration will cover the weekly sessions in January-June.
